Average time on page is a reassuring metric: a single number, easy to track, that seems to measure interest. In reality it's one of the most ambiguous numbers in analytics. A visitor who stays four minutes may be gripped by your argument — or lost, hunting for information they can't find.   • The last screen often isn't counted. Many tools measure time between two pageviews: on a standalone landing page with no next page, visit time can be underestimated or logged as zero depending on the tool. Check how your analytics handles this before comparing numbers.
